| Sound slike you have the same sentiment I do towards the Eagles front office, they are trying to use the Patriots framework for running a successful franchise but they do it in such excess that they end up shooting themselves in the foot. Using the Terrell Owens situation as an example, while Owens was utterly obnoxious with his negotiation strategy, the Eagles were equally absurd with absolutely refusing to restructure his contract. I am not of the opinion that Owens deserved more money than what was in his initial deal, but management could have distributed the money differently so the seven-year deal wasn't so back heavy. Because everyone, including Owens, knew there was no chance Jim Banner was going to pay the full aggregate of money Owens signed for. My guess is he would have been cut after his fourth year. And instead of showing any contrition and for once playcating to the players (you know, the ones that attract every single cent to that franchise), they have a divided clubhouse and a disgruntled collection of players because they assume they will be treated just as expendable. And they will. Over the years they have cut so many players that were integral to the team because they didn't want to shell out any money for top dollar talent: Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent, Corey Simon, Deuce Staley etc.
Here's hoping McNabb's window hasn't closed and his career isn't swallowed hole in NFL purgatory because of the Eagles fiscal conservatism. |
