In doing so, the Eagles have sold out their fans as well. So ,Eagles fans, by default, you now support Vick by going to the games, by watching them on television,
by purchasing Eagles merchandise. The Eagles have become "that team" and now their fans are "those fans". Any fan attending an Eagles game is now tainted as supporting Vick,
any fan watching them on TV is now tainted as supporting Vick, any fan wearing an Eagles jersey now supports Vick. WHY? Because Jeffrey Lurie says you do!!!!
hey do not through us fans under the bus

Darn right squirrel15...I am more outrage with Tony Romo's performance in the last quarter of 2008...and I am blaming a few Jessica Simpson incidents for it!...

Having said that, I am okay with Vick...until he runs for over 100 yards against the Cowboys...then I am gonna hop the band wagon to get him out of the league...other than that, it's all sunshine and blue berries...

Right on Goth. Jessica Simpson was worse any day. What she did to our quarterback----
Better get the protesters organized. I can see that 100 yards coming.

And the fact that it seems like more people are outraged over Vick's than Stallworth's is equally disgusting and frightening.
In a weird way, this signing makes some sense to me. Vick will be the lightning rod, and suddenly, the spotlight's off McNabb.

Ok, I don't condoan anything Michael Vick did at all, it was a terrible thing, but he served his time and now you want him to be banned from making a living. How is this different from the guy at Red Lobster getting his job back after doing something like this? He deserves a second chance, why does everyone have a problem with this?

Like Lefty said everyone outragous over Vick and him killing dogs (which again is awful but he served his time) Donte Stallaworth killed a human being and hardly anyone batted any eye and he only 30 days in jail. Vick got two years in jail, let him have a chance. He spend two years away from his family paying for his crime, how you are to take away his right to make a living at what he's good at too.

Re: Vick signed by Philly

Agree...Stallworth kills a man, accidently. Gets 24 days in county jail and is suspended for a year. Vick kills dogs, goes to Fed prison, goes bankrupt and loses everything. But people are willing to forgive Stallworth and not Vick.... we are truely a very warped society. That being said.. I still believe the Vick signing is a win-win situation with low risk/high reward. Vick knows he has no chance of replacing McNabb (barring a career ending injury). The Eagles get a vet back-up for 1 or 2 years at very low cost. If he does play this year and plays well, there are other teams out there who may need a QB next year (especially as the Eaglews have taken the PR hit on it this year. By next year the whole issue will have been replaced with something new). The Eagles could possibly trade Vick and draft a young QB to begin grooming to replace McNabb down the road. Or if they feel the need, they keep him again for another year. Lots of possibilities. The only negative is if Vick can not perform. As far as PR, Eagles fans want a winner and we want to go back to the SB again.... if Vick helps us get there, then we will live with it. We are no different from Red Sox fans in that regard.

Re: Vick signed by Philly

While I like Vick, and I believe he has served is time and should play...

I think the difference may be, that Stallworth made an one time mistake that cost someone their life...and Vick's behavior was one of cruelty over a long span of time, rather than a one shot deal...I think that may be at the root of how people go about forgiving...

Personally, when they both comply with the letter of the law, I am for them playing...

Goth, I gotta hand it to you. That's the first good argument I've heard on the topic. I can see your point.

Re: Vick signed by Philly

Maybe its easier for more people to forgive Stallworth because its all too easy to put themselves in his shoes. A lot of people have one too many and could easily have been Stallworth. Maybe it has something to do with drunken driving being more common. The average joe doesn't get involved in dogfighting.
Its not really for me to judge either. I dont know what is in their heart. If they are really sorry, who am I to cast judgment?

Re: Vick signed by Philly

I tend to agree that based on what may or may not be accepted in certain cultures or regions plays a factor in the outrage people feel about certain issues. Cockfighting goes on in the many parts of the world (legally I'll add)do I support it no just as I don't support dog fighting. Imo many things become acceptable if you are exposed to them day after day especially if it is done at a young age. I'm willing to accept someones acknoledgement that they f-ed up and show me that they are remorseful.

Re: Vick signed by Philly

Yes but the difference is one man made a mistake and took a human life. The other... well I don't know what to say. Yes he did display unusual cruelty over a long period of time, but ( and this is what I have a problem with) he was cruel to an animal. Now don't get me wrong, I love dogs (hate cats!!). We have 2 dogs at home. But people in America are sadly warped. We get upset about someone killing animals (cruelly or swiftly it doesn't matter) yet we are so "de-sensitized" to killing people we just go "oh well". It's almost like we say " It's OK to kill a person but not an animal" Maybe because a human can fight back, I don't know. But being a drunk driver and killing someone is not an excuse. Sure Stallworth didn't want it to happen but just because he didn't want it to happen doesn't make it alright. He took another life and his punishment was 24 days in county jail... that's it. To me, Stallworth should never play again. He made even a poorer lapse in judgement then Vick (even if Vick's time frame was longer). These guys are million dollar athletes yet they couldn't call a cab.. or better yet, why don't the owners give these idiots access to limo service. It just boogles my mind that someone with all that money is that stupid and irresponsible. If Stallworth had killed a whole family would this situation be any different?? Sorry enough of my rambling on this issue
