But until McNabb takes us all the way all people are going to look at is 1-4 in the NFC Championship games and 0-1 in the SB. Sorry but that's the truth. I personally like McNabb, he is arguably the best QB we have ever had. But like Fran Tarkinton or Jim Kelly he is going to be judged on how he performs in the big games... and he has come up short. Elway had the same rep until he finally won it. As far as Westbrook, it is starting to feel like he is tipping over the top now. Maybe he has one more good year left in him, but he has taken such a pounding in his career, I am glad they got McCoy (even if he did go to school in Sh*ttsburgh). Hopefully this will be our year.
I have a problem sometimes with that "big game" thing. Do you think it will keep him out of the HOF? Unfortunately, you are right here. I personally like McNabb too.
Westbrook is declining. Maybe he can do it one more year if he stays healthy.
So you feel good about the young running back. What about your back up qb?

Thumbs up Re: Injury Bug bites Eagles early

I have repeatedly said "Kevin Kolb is not an NFL QB and, barring an injury, will never be the starting QB for the Birds." I stand by that. Certainly it worries me about who is backing up #5... any fan is. After Brady went down how many people wrote NE off, despite being a damn good team. And even with Cassell they almost got to the playoffs. Which tells me, as good as Brady is, his team and his system play a VERY BIG part of it. Westbrook is entering the downside of his career... sure he will still have greta games here and there, but the trend is down. McCoy was a good draft pick who should see plenty of playing time. Plus our WR are pretty good so I think if Reid can come up with a good game plan we should be back to the title game again.

Some teams just dont seem able to find a good backup quarterback. In the Eagles' case, they really need to be looking for a good franchise quarterback. Do you think Reid is too hung up on McNabb to really get serious about it?

Re: Injury Bug bites Eagles early

I agree they need to start looking. You know what happened that game when Reid benched McNabb. Kolb has no skills. All the reports I've read about him in training camp seem to back that up. Donovan still has some good years left but its time to start nurturing a good solid back up who will be able to pick up where he left off. I don't know why teams wait until a QB is well past his prime to even start looking for a replacement. And for the record I'm not saying McNabb is. I'm looking forward to him having a strong year

Re: Injury Bug bites Eagles early

Well as much as people complained Detmer was a good back-up... not great but he could hold the fort. Garcia was probably the best back-up we had... but like most back-ups, they want to be a starter (Garcia proved he still could be... plus he has a smoking hot wife!) It is hard to find a good back-up because it is aguy you really never want to see play, so you never know how good he is. If he is good (like Garcia or Cassell) they want to leave and get paid to start someplace else. If they play and are bad ( too many to count) your season is ruined. The best back-ups are the one on Indy... has that guy ever played??? So while most people in Philly agree Kolb is not it, we really have to start looking for the future. I saw that GB has Rodgers as a starter and Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn as back-ups. Why not trade a pick for one of them... they both are young with potential and GB is not going to be able to keep both of them behind Rodgers.

I think Sorgi in Indy played once, not sure. Actually, I just read an article on cushy jobs in the NFL. His was the no. 1. He seems to have no desire to go elsewhere to start.
I dont think I would want either Brohm or Flynn. Their potential seems a bit slim so far, unless they have really picked it up lately in training camp. Packers have serious problems if Rogers goes down.

AJ Feely isn't bad remember he came in for McNabb a few year back when he broke his leg and got us to the playoffs and he looked good last night

Re: Injury Bug bites Eagles early

The problem with a back-up is you have 2 choices: An older veteran who is in his final years or a young guy to groom. The old guy is happy to hold the clipboard, give his wisdom but he may not be the best back-up. The young guy is more eager to play but does not know everything. Each choice has its good and bad. Think Eagles have tried both... or at least they thought they did. Garcia was not as old as they thought. Kolb is the project that is not working out. That's why the Vick move makes sense. For a cheap $1.5M we get a veteran back-up this year. If Vick plays well when he gets a chance then he will be easy to trade next year. We can then either find another vet to back up McNabb and draft a young QB to start grooming.

Yeah, I dont see the Eagles losing on this one. If they can handle the media attention. Its pretty bad.

I think the media attention ends once the season starts to be honest. Sure lot of people in Philly are complaining but show me someone who is really going to give back his season tixs.... I doubt it. They are a strong franchise with a very.. passionate.. fan base. I think people are honestly more upset they let Dawkins go instead of this. Most people realize Kolb does not have what it takes, or he is hurt worse then they are letting on, so Vick makes sense. The Eagles have to worry more about not getting off to their traditional "slow start".... why is it all Philly teams have that bad habit?? Must be something in the beer I think!
