Allen Iverson and Philly

Since the Sixers lost the Finals several years ago, it seems they've been on a downward spiral. They have some nice young players like Iguadola and Korver along with old cagey-vet, Chris Webber. Earlier in the off-season it was rumored they were close to dealing Iverson to Boston in a package involving Paul Pierce but that never came to fruition.

Will Philly ever be a serious contender with AI or does he hurt them?

it's time for Philly to move in a different direction if they could. The problem? You can't trade superstars unless you take an equal amount of money back. So their trading options are limited. This is inherent problem with the NBA. The salary cap hurts it since you don't trade players anymore, you trade contracts.

Re: Allen Iverson and Philly

I am not sure if Philly explored this option, but they should have attempted trading him to a team that is going to be in the lottery with or without Iverson. An example would be to The Hawks for Pachulia or Harrington and there first round pick in 2007. Because that draft is going to be loaded with talent and future franchise players. Trading for a guy like Paul Pierce, while he is a great player, is just replacing Iverson with another Iverson. The difference he would make would be almost negligible.

Regarding Pierce for Iverson, you're 100% right CJG. To trade with the Hawks though they would have to take an equal amount of money back. My guess is the Hawks don't have anyone near making Iverson money. The NBA among a lot of other things, needs revenue sharing and/or a different type of cap system.
