Cool Iverson or Nash?

This Allen Iverson argument brings up an interesting question. If you were starting a team today and could have Iverson or Nash as your guard, who would you pick?

While Iverson is much more of a scorer, I personally would take Nash because I believe he plays the game the right way. He looks to pass first and score second and makes the players around him better.

What does everyone else think?

Unanswerable question

That's actually a better question than it first looks. At first I said, duh, Nash. He is the reigning MVP and Iverson just scores a lot. But when looking at it look who Nash has had on his teams the last few years, Stoudamire, Marion, Nowitski, and Finley. Who has Iverson had, Snow, Van Horn, Robinson, and now a, shadow of his former self, Webber. Plus if you were building a team would you need a scoring point or a passing one. If your forwards were Garnett and Nowitski then you would take Nash if your forwards were Artest and Howard then you would take Iverson. Or at center, you got Shaq obvious Nash but Ben Wallace and you'd obviously take Iverson. You can't pose that question in reality when IN REALITY they are different players. Basketball is a team game and when starting a franchise you would have know the team and who else would you take, scorer or defender. But all that aside, I,d take Nash. PS did I spell Nowitski wrong?

First of all, Iverson was also named MVP during his career, so I'd say his career is about more than "just scoring a lot."

However, I agree with the rest of your argument. Iverson has had very little to play with during his career. Look at the team he carried to the 1997 NBA Finals - they were vastly overmatched by the Lakers. Don't think for a minute that team had a chance of winning anything without Iverson.

I agree that I'd take a different guard depending on who my center is. Nash and Iverson play very different games.

Nash, I think...

I would have to vote for Nash. I agree that he plays the game "the right way," and I really liked his style when he was playing for Dallas. On the other hand, Iverson is so good that the choice is difficult. I suppose I would go for Nash partly because I'm simply more familiar with him, and watched B-ball more when he was in my town.
