The Penn State Nittany Lions finished 9th in the Director's Cup standings for 2008.
According to the school's official website, "The U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program's sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 men's and 10 women's. The Directors' Cup is presented to the top collegiate athletics programs in the nation in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and the NAIA... The Nittany Lions' Top 10 finish in the Directors' Cup caps a superlative 2007-08 sports year. Penn State captured NCAA Championships in women's volleyball and men's volleyball and Big Ten crowns in women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's gymnastics and women's outdoor track and field. Seventeen Penn State squads were represented in their respective NCAA Championships, with an impressive eight teams earning Top 5 finishes."
