STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Three Penn State football players charged in connection with a campus fight last fall have been kicked off the team, at least temporarily, a person familiar with the players' status said Friday.

Defensive tackle Chris Baker and linebacker Navorro Bowman are awaiting trial on felony assault and other charges related to a fight in October at the campus student union.


Cornerback Knowledge Timmons was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and defiant trespass stemming from an incident after the fight.

This is one of the reasons Paterno has been so successful. He does not tolerate this on his team.

okay, I am not advocating violence, we have enough of that in the world and on a campus...but what happened to the day that guys threw a few punches over something and then went and got a drink together without criminal charges and headlines news?

This is a serious blow if Bowman does not return. He got a lot of playing time this year and was the favorite to replace Dan Connor at LB next fall.

Those days ended a long time ago. This behavior can't be tolerated anymore because kids can't let anything go anymore. Their pride will get hurt and then somebody brings weapons into the fight.

Just read in the paper that WR Chris Bell and DT Phillip Taylor have also been suspended. According to the report (I assume it's from the AP; it's not credited in the paper): "The sophomores were mentioned - but not charged - in a criminal complaint last year concerning a fight during a fraternity dance party at the student union."
