The Associated Press has ranked the Penn State Nittany Lions 17th in their annual preseason Top 25 poll.

According to the team's official website, "The Nittany Lions have been ranked in the AP preseason poll 35 times during Joe Paterno's 42 seasons as head coach. Penn State has been ranked in the final Top 25 a total of 32 times during Paterno's Hall of Fame career. Last season, Penn State finished 9-4 and was ranked No. 24 in the final Associated Press poll and No. 25 by USA Today/Coaches... Penn State will face six teams that played in bowl games last season, three of whom are ranked in the Associated Press Top 15: Michigan (5), Wisconsin (7) and Ohio State (11)."
