| In a letter to all qualified students from the Penn State Athletic Department, Penn State's Joe Paterno had the following quote: "You have a shot at being the 'best student section in the country' again this year. Make sure your friends, who believe in Penn State football, are ready for the online sale coming June 7. We need our best fans behind us." Or the luckiest. Or, better yet, the luckiest ones with the bigger bandwidth and a Ticketmaster account. On June 7, 22,000 students received a season ticket in a first-time random lottery style online sale on Ticketmaster. Last year, all the tickets sold in 13 days. This year it took a mere 59 minutes in what many who took part said was as intense and riveting as anything that might happen on the Beaver Stadium field this fall. "I logged on at 9:02 and it was intense," said Trina Gayman, who was trying to procure season tickets for her daughter, Sarah, who will be a freshman at State College in the fall. "I didn't think I was going to get a ticket, but at 9:40, I got my confirmation." The good news is that there's obviously some real interest in tickets. The bad news is there are 76,000 students at all PSU campuses statewide, which means there are a lot of highly irritated people who missed out.
