Penn State profits report Up to the minute news about the Penn State Nittany Lions from GoTeamsGo. We'll find the latest Penn State Nittany Lions news so you can chat about here. Quote: Penn State football makes money, too
San Jose Mercury News, USA - Dec 5, 2006
PHILADELPHIA - Since Penn State and Tennessee have two of the three largest stadiums in the nation and play in conferences with lucrative TV packages, it's no surprise that both programs are turning a handsome profit.
According to the schools' most recent Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act filings, they earned a combined profit of $41.9 million on football last season.
While every school reports its financial data differently - some, for example, list the cost of scholarships as athletic-department expenses, others as revenue - the figures clearly reveal two fiscally healthy programs.
Penn State, its income supplemented by an appearance in the BCS-backed Orange Bowl, had football revenue in 2005 of $40.5 million.
It listed its expenses at $14.1 million, meaning it finished $26.4 million in the black.
