Dany Heatley contract extension

Dany Heatley of the Ottawa Senators has signed a new six-year, $45-million extension with the club. Good move, don't you think?

Yes. 50 goal scorers don't come along every day.

Definitely a key to the Ottawa puzzle...but too much money for hockey...the league needs to cap the high salaries around $5 million a year, with a bonus based on team revenue.

Why is it too much? It's a free market. Nobody held a gun to Ottawa's head.

Heatley is the best player the Sens have, hands down.

Unfortunately its a free market without common sense...Ottawa is free to do whatever it wants...but I doubt hockey will keep surviving the shear stupidity of the owner's decision making...

And even in a free market economy, pray tell, what is wrong with having a base salary + bonus based on % of revenue?...nothing...but hey, if they want to keep doing what doesn't really worked -let the NHL keep chasing that dream....

Re: Dany Heatley contract extension

I agree, Gotham. Hockey is in fear of becoming ridiculous like baseball salaries made baseball.
There's nothing wrong with base salaries and bonus based on percentage of revenue.
Seems though every time an owner has a chance to circumvent the rules of salary cap, they figure out how. It's a talent. It's like not paying as many taxes as you really owe.
The Rangers do it repeatedly.
I fear salaries becoming sky high too. If anyone deserves the most, it's Heatley - but make him earn it, yes. And he will.
Every teams scampers and does whatever they can to get to the Cup - it's embarrassing. If Ottawa doesn't do it, someone else will grab him up.
like the Rangers.
