| NHL Playoffs - Senators vs. Devils As impressive as they looked in the opening round of the NHL playoffs, the Ottawa Senators say they'll need to pack more punch to knock out the New Jersey Devils in Round 2. "Our play is going to have to be even better than last series to be there," Senators defenceman Wade Redden said Monday, a day after the Devils eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning to set up a second-round Eastern Conference matchup versus Ottawa. "We've got to play real smart and real aggressive. All four lines are going to have to be going for us again." With all due respect to the Pittsburgh Penguins, whom the Senators disposed of rather easily in a five-game series, the Devils pose a tougher test - they're deeper, more disciplined and defensively better than Sidney Crosby's crew - despite only finishing two points higher than both Ottawa and Pittsburgh in the regular season. The series is set to open Thursday night at Continental Airlines Arena, according to the Devils' website, although the league has yet to announce the official dates. | Eastern Conf. Semifinal Storylines: Devils v. Senators DEVILS-SENS RECAP: The Devils' 2-1 shootout win over the Senators on April 3 marked Lou Lamoriello's 2006-07 coaching debut. The win was also Martin Brodeur's NHL record-tying 47th of the season. After losing to the Senators 8-1 in the first of four games this season between the teams, the Devils rebounded to win the next three - all one-goal games (3-2, 3-2 and 2-1). TWO OF THE BEST: The matchup between the Devils and the Senators features two of the top-five regular-season teams over the past 10 seasons. With 1,041 points, the Devils rank third (behind Detroit, 1,081 points, and Dallas, 1,052 points), while Colorado is fourth with 1,008 and the Senators are fifth with 994. Eastern Conf. | Ottawa Senators' lesser lights hope to trouble New Jersey Devils OTTAWA (CP) - The Ottawa Senators figure to get plenty of mileage out of their stars against New Jersey. Should the Senators progress past the Devils in Round 2, however, it'll likely be because their lesser lights continued to shine as brightly as they have so far this post-season. "Every line chipped in last (series) and we've seen that all year," left-winger Antoine Vermette said Wednesday before the Senators departed for New Jersey and the opening game of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal Thursday (7 p.m. ET). | Re: NHL Playoffs - Senators vs. Devils u no it i mean after the neil hit on drury i cant ever like them and theyre just stupid anyway they think they got what it takes cuz they got big guys that take out everyone else's best players now thats just not fair they dont deserve to be in the playoffs, or playing at all u can tell me how they may have some good players or a good goalie in emery (who sucks and who i hate deeply), but ill always come back with something better from the sabres so dont try. i hate the senators now and always. |

| Devils face big test as deadlocked series shifts to Senators' home The New Jersey Devils fought their way to a split at home with the Senators, but their playoff series will only get tougher now that it has shifted to Ottawa. After dropping the opener 5-4, the Devils needed a double overtime goal from Jamie Langenbrunner to defeat Ottawa 3-2 on Saturday night to even the best-of-seven NHL Eastern Conference semifinal 1-1. Game 3 is Monday night at Scotiabank Place (7 p.m ET), with Game 4 on Wednesday. "We didn't play our best hockey yet and we got back in the series, so these are the sort of positive things we're going to take from the first two games," goaltender Martin Brodeur said Sunday. "It was huge. Being (down) 2-0 or 1-1 going into the other team's building - that says it all right there."
