Battle of Ontario - Senators vs. Maple Leafs

OTTAWA (CP) - Jason Spezza's back is hurting, Ray Emery's game is ailing and the Ottawa Senators' overall form has been painful to watch recently.

The NHL's best second-half team a little more than a week ago, the suddenly slumping Senators realize they're in for a tough night when the rival Toronto Maple Leafs visit Thursday to continue their push for the playoffs.

"Basically, they're in the playoffs now and we've got to play like that," Senators defenceman Wade Redden said following Wednesday's practice. "Just because we've got a few points up on them, we can't be satisfied just stumbling into the playoffs."

Re: Battle of Ontario - Senators vs. Maple Leafs

Well that's probably the most respectful thing Redden's ever said about the Leafs.
Did you hear how Spezza hurt his back? getting out of the car at the grocery store.
His coach said something like he should get married so he'll have help from now on.
Sp Spezza's a hopeful -other than that, the Sens are full roster. heatley has 13 goals in 14 games vs. the leafs over the last 2 seasons.

Tucker's OT goal caps comeback as Leafs stun rival Senators 4-3

TORONTO (CP) - Darcy Tucker's famous fist pump made a return Saturday night, an emotional gesture towards the fans moments after his overtime goal capped a come-from-behind win for the Toronto Maple Leafs over the rival Ottawa Senators.

Loss to Leafs leaves Senators in need of another wake-up call

OTTAWA (CP) - Ottawa can look back at Toronto in the Eastern Conference playoff race, but the Maple Leafs have an edge in one important trait for this time of year: Passion... The Maple Leafs had it in abundance Saturday night and the Senators couldn't match it... The Leafs overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period against Ottawa, eventually winning 4-3 on Darcy Tucker's overtime goal... "The teams approached it with a different passion and the score was an indication (of that passion)," Senators coach Bryan Murray said Monday before his team left for New York, where it will play the Rangers on Tuesday night... It's a statement that fans in Canada's capital likely won't want to hear since success in the playoffs depends on passion, intensity and killer-instinct.
