Apples and Oranges: Grover Cleveland or Grover Cleveland Alexander?

Tough choice, eh? Both classic trivia subjects, both of much note in history.

I'll even get Legend started:

Grover Cleveland was governor of New York; Grover Cleveland Alexander governed New York in the 1926 Series.

Grover Cleveland was never a U.S. Senator; Grover Cleveland Alexander was never a Washington Senator.

Grover Cleveland's number one daughter was baby Ruth (for whom the candy bar was really named); Grover Cleveland Alexander's number one nemesis was Babe Ruth.

Grover Cleveland busted strikes; Grover Cleveland Alexander threw strikes.

Grover Cleveland was succeeded by Ronald Reagan in the white house 73 years after his death; Grover Cleveland Alexander was portrayed by Ronald Reagan on the silver screen two years after his death.

In the end i'll go for Alexander. Though it's tough to vote against anyone with Mugwumps on their side, Cleveland's jailing of Eugene V. Debs is enough to put Ol' Pete on top.

Cheers.

You know I was leaning Alexander until the part where Grover throws Debs in jail...come, come Os my man...it was the 20's and Debs was the leader of the Socialist party...what else could the man do...We just didn't want to go Red that's all...

Debs wasn't a socialist when he was thrown in jail in 1895. It was only while in Jail that he read the works of Karl Marx and became one.

I am going with Grover Cleveland on this one. Simply because he had the most vetos of any president in one term, 414, and only FDR had more lifetime vetos than Mr. Cleveland (and that's only cause he served 130 terms). Mr. Prez wasn't vetoing bills during a dead ball era. Mr. Alexander's best years were during a dead ball era.

Wow..414 Vetoes in a term. Now that's a "Did you know"...

Duane Kiper has more career homeruns then Bush has vetoes.

Re: Apples and Oranges: Grover Cleveland or Grover Cleveland Alexander?

For the sake of clarity, the president Cleveland will be Grover, the pitcher will be Pete.
As a lawyer, Grover passed the bar- As a player, Pete never passed a bar
Grover liked to eat pickled herring- Pete just liked to be pickled
Grover put a stop to alot of bills he didn't like- Pete put a stop to the Yankees 1926 rally
At Princeton, Grover came into contact with Woodrow Wilson- As a pitcher, Pete came into contact with Hack Wilson
Grover received the majority of the vote in 1888, but was not elected president- Pete received the majority of the vote in 1938 and was elected to the Hall of Fame!
I'll take Old Pete
