F1 - Force India Team - $120 Million...

ESPN - Force India hoping to make its point(s) before '08 comes to a close - Racing

It's a pretty standard article about the team but the reason I wanted to share it with you has to do with this issue:

Quote:
Twenty months later Shnaider sold the team, which was called Midland at the time, to Dutch exotic automaker Spyker Cars. Neither owner put sufficient money into the team for it to really improve, but that all changed when Mallya and Michiel Mol took over toward the end of 2007. Mallya immediately doubled the budget to about $120 million.

While that's "only" 25 to 30 percent of what teams like McLaren and Ferrari spend annually, it has allowed the team, now called Force India, to invest and grow. The team now has its own wind tunnel that runs 24 hours a day, plus leases time in two more tunnels.
25 to 30 percent?!? $120 MILLION is only 25 to 30 percent??? Gawdalmighty, are you kidding me? NASCAR teams are happy if they can find $20 million for a team... I knew that F1 took everything to extremes, but this? WOW!

I believe that they call it "Progress?"

They have their very own wind tunnel but lease time in two more? If they spend any more we'll be talking about some REALLY serious money. <G>

Sorry to burst your bubble, but take a look at what Michael Schumacher's income is/was and you'll see there's not a NASCAR driver ever who comes even close to his earnings. Many don't make in a lifetime what he brings in now as a "consultant".

All things being equal, the ratio of team expenses to team expenses, F1 should outspend NASCAR by 2 to 3 times easily. Of course the difference in just the costs of the cars should be the first indication of the disparity... (DOF, do you have the latest F1 car costs?) A first class Cup car runs about $200K, ready to race (that's a single, i.e., ONE, car).

Re: F1 - Force India Team - $120 Million...

The budget of Ferrari/McLaren is between 450-500 million per year.

A car's worth is a secret but it's worth over a million.

Some figures, multiply by 2 to get in USD.

Re: F1 - Force India Team - $120 Million...

The main reason why they did ths is because India Force was in bad shape. They didn't finish that many race and came in dead last most of the time. Think of all of the technologies that go into the F1. They are trying to become even more fuel effeicent. Tree huggers. Do you actually know that the F1 uses less fuel all season than a airport flight? Yeah, thats more than enough fuel effeicent...
