New NHRA Qualifying fomat!

NHRA News: Professional qualifying format to change in 2008 POWERade Series (1/16/200

I'm not sure I like this, I don't think there was whole lot wrong with the old system! Tell me your feelings on this!

Re: New NHRA Qualifying fomat!

It would appear that the NHRA is trying to produce "drama" to its qualifying rounds. "Is he in or isn't he? Should he make that last attempt to better his position? If he doesn't will someone bump him?"

NHRA has been listening to Brian France waaay too much. Drag racing, like round and roundies, will provide the drama IF YOU JUST LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE! If it's manufactured and contrived, as it appears they are trying to do, that might be pleasing to the newbie but like NA__AR's recent changes, it'll leave the old-line fans scratching their heads and asking, "What the Hell just happened to our sport?"

Or that's my take on it since you were kind enough to solicit a response.

I agree. I just don't see why they are messing with a good thing, just like the truck series.

Re: New NHRA Qualifying fomat!

It'll be interesting to see what some of the teams and drivers think about this.

Re: New NHRA Qualifying fomat!

I can see some goodness in it. For one thing it negates a "bad weather day" and allows those who had posted good times on previous days to race. The good/bad part is it allows other teams which weren't performing as well to get in the show (don't know whether this is good or bad - either way, if they aren't performing as well as the 12, they won't last long in eliminations.)

the real goodness I see is the lack of a "Champ's provisional" .. John Force is still gonna have to lay down some good times to get into the show!

Re: New NHRA Qualifying fomat!

I might like it more after I see it in action. And at least it doesn't reward past permormance. It may work. I guess NASCAR just has me hating the word "provisional"!
