| World of Outlaws World Finals Kicks Off Speed News Now - Open Wheel News The pit area was filled with 130 race cars Thursday night as the inaugural World of Outlaws World Finals kicked off three nights of action at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway. The unique event marks the first time the World of Outlaws Sprint Series and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series have come together to end their seasons at the same event. Thursday night's program featured hot laps and twin qualifying sessions for the two divisions. Sprint Series points leader Donny Schatz, of Fargo, N.D., topped the 48-car sprint car field in the first time trial session with a lap of 12.416 seconds, 115.979 mph, while Lucas Wolfe, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., set the pace in the second sprint car session with a lap of 12.447 seconds, 115.691 mph, around the four-tenths-mile clay oval.

Steve Kinser and Donnie Moran claimed the battles while Donny Schatz and Steve Francis won the wars Saturday during the final night of the inaugural World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway. Kinser claimed $10,000 for his 10th World of Outlaws Sprint Series victory of the year while Moran also banked $10,000 for winning the 50-lap finale for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. In the championship chases, Schatz earned his second consecutive sprint car title while Francis earned his first championship trophy in the late models. Nearly 14,000 fans from 48 states and three foreign countries filled the grandstands for the final night of the three-day event as the two nomadic World of Outlaws series came together for the first time to conclude their seasons. ![]() |
