Dennis Dixon's Oregon Career Is Ovah

Finito. No mas. Retire the jersey time. Done.
Dennis Dixon completely tore the ACL in his left knee in Oregon's win over Arizona State on Nov. 3, and convinced Oregon's coaches and doctors to let him try and play in the Arizona game last night.

After leaving last night's loss in the first quarter when the knee faltered again, Dixon will now have season-ending surgery, bringing his UO career to a close. That was the word on a conference call featuring UO coach Mike Bellotti and team physician Dr. Bob Crist this evening.

Oh, man... I can't believe the dude tried to play on a torn ACL. That's stupid. Tough as all get out, but stupid.

Well Oregon is screwed, and he (Dixon) just fell from a 3rd round pick to a 5th or 6th round pick

To bad, he was on the rise. He started the year in the 6-7 round range I believe...

Anyone think he can still pull in the Heisman or is that gone too?

It is way gone as well, the Hesiman right on I think will be going to the SEC.

How about the Big 12 and the Kansas QB, or Colt Brennan? Any chance there?

I will give the Kansas QB, not Brennan though he is in the same boat as Dixon missed to many games

Sure he will - many have recovered from an ACL injury - Chipper Jones comes to mind - he tore his as a rookie.

Well I knew I'm just saying he can't play right now, and when he comes back he will have to choose

Yeah, I think you're right. Most guys after a fairly serious football injury like this do wind up choosing baseball.

Re: Dennis Dixon's Oregon Career Is Ovah

Well, back when you all made the comments, would have agreed, Dixon to MLB Atlanta Braves where he did sign a contract. However, I believe it was the Pittsburgh Steelers who drafted him in the 5th round which shocks me. Dixon is too fragile for the NFL and think the Steelers made a huge mistake. Don't get me wrong, Dixon is actually a great NFL talent but too fragile to play QB.

I like this kid and if he can get healthy and build a little more muscle I think he can do some damage as a nice scrambling qb..

But this IS the Steelers we're talking about here. So maybe they envision him in the Slash roll ala Kordell Stewart of so many years ago?
