Big offensive numbers usually dominate conversations about Oregon and Arizona State football, two teams that produced a 56-55 game -- won by Oregon -- in 2000.
This season, No. 4 Oregon (7-1, 4-1 Pacific-10 Conference) has score more than 50 points in half its games, and had another game with 48 points. No. 6 Arizona State (8-0, 5-0) has topped 40 points in four out of eight games.
But when the game has been on the line, the defense has stepped up for the Ducks and Sun Devils this season.
Defense is a major reason both these teams are on the doorstep of a Pac-10 title, and perhaps more.
