| Re: Oregon at Stanford Saturday 11/7 (7) Oregon at StanfordOregon-Stanford Preview Despite rumors to the contrary, Oregon coach Chip Kelly isn't ready to reinstate suspended running back LeGarrette Blount this week. Thanks to the play of freshman LaMichael James, the seventh-ranked Ducks haven't missed Blount this season and they are leading the Pac-10 race going into Saturday's game at Stanford. After rushing for 1,038 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, Blount was expected to be one of the top playmakers for Oregon (7-1, 5-0) before being suspended for punching Boise State defensive end Byron Hout following a season-opening loss. Kelly allowed Blount to practice with the team and said he could return if he met certain conditions. The Oregon coach targeted the Stanford game as a possible end to his suspension, and that speculation was further fueled by a visit from Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott following last Saturday's 47-20 win over then-No. 4 Southern California. Kelly, however, didn't say Monday if Blount would return. Oregon Ducks vs. Stanford Cardinal Preview, November 7 2009 - NCAA College Football - ESPN The first thing I have noticed this year about the Stanford Cardinal is how good of a home team they are. Cardinal are 4-0 at home this year and beating most of the teams they played pretty easily. They are 1-3 on the road. Great young QB in Andrew Luck who really could give the Ducks some problems along with a really good RB in Toby Gerhardt. Cardinal have been pretty tough this year on defense and sit in 3rd place of the PAC 10. I sure hope this is not a trap game for the Ducks who are coming off one of their biggest victories in years. Chip Kelly has did a good job of not letting the Ducks get too high or too low for any game. Everybody appears to be healthy after the USC game and think this game will be business as usual. Cardinal will play the Ducks tough...for awhile anyways. Prediction: Ducks 41 Cardinal 21 Anybody like the Stanford Cardinal in an upset here?

| Re: Oregon at Stanford Saturday 11/7 Stanford should be ranked, in my opinion. They're really good... that's no easy game for the ducks, especially at Stanford, where they have shown to be dominant this year. I still think the Ducks will pull away :P |

| Re: Oregon at Stanford Saturday 11/7 ( Stanford 51Stanford rides Gerhart's legs past No. 8 Oregon STANFORD, Calif. -- Toby Gerhart and Stanford did to the Oregon defense what the Ducks did a week ago to Southern California, opening up the Pac-10 race with a program-defining victory. Gerhart ran for a school-record 223 yards and three scores, Andrew Luck threw for two touchdowns and Stanford held on to beat Oregon (No. 8 BCS, No. 7 AP) 51-42 Saturday to become bowl eligible for the first time in eight years. "This was definitely my biggest win since I've been here at Stanford," Gerhart said, ranking it ahead of the victory over No. 2 USC two years ago. "I think it's definitely bigger than the USC win because it gets us to that bowl game. All our seniors, the goal coming in was to be a bowl team. This was by far the biggest win. The students storming the field, that was an awesome feeling." Stanford rides Gerhart's legs past No. 8 Oregon - NCAA College Football Recap - ESPN |

| Re: Oregon at Stanford Saturday 11/7 If the Ducks could have played any kind of defense in the 2nd half, they could have won this game. Every time the Ducks scored the Cardinal answered. Worst defensive effort of the year by far for the Ducks. Cardinal had a great offensive game plan and it worked. Hats off to the Cardinal and a great win for them. Ducks still go to the Rosebowl if they win out. The defense needs to find itself again or they may not win another game! |

They won't go to the Rosebowl, however, if they win out, they will go to a BCS bowl - they'll win the Pac-10. But the Rose bowl is the "big bowl" this season, the Championship game, correct me if I'm wrong. But yes, usually Pac winner goes to the Rose Bowl. |

I actually just found out a month ago there was a new agreement with the BCS about the Rose Bowl. If the BCS National Championship is going to be played in the Rose Bowl, the PAC 10/ Big 10 tradition continues. The traditional Rose Bowl will be played on January 1st every year but the BCS Championship will be 1 week later if it is the Rose Bowl's turn to host it. BCS committee has agreed to allow the PAC 10 and Big 10 to continue their traditional series now every year without interruption as long as PAC 10 and/or Big 10 champion is not involved. Does this help? P.S. A good friend alerted me to this a month ago. Desertrat is pretty up to date on this stuff and maybe he can confirm this? Thanks. |
