New Coach same Old Miss?

Does a new coach mean the Miss will return to thier winning ways? Or is this a long term solution to a growing problem? Not being a contender hurts the school who has had little to cheer for since Eli Manning.

Re: New Coach same Old Miss?

Well this is my first post on this forum so here we go. I think Ole Miss is in a rebuilding stage. I think Nutt will bring an offense that will actually produce a lot more points seeing how it has been non-existent while under Coach O. Defense still looks thin but we have some veterans returning. Marshay Green has moved from WR to CB, don't know how that will work out but the more depth in the Secondary the better. As long as we win some SEC games this season I'll be happy.

I'm hoping one of those wins will be in Baton Rouge.

That would be just fine in my book! I am glad that ya'll got Houston he is a good coach and full of trickery in a weird way he reminds me of Bobby Bowden.

Oh we got both Tigers and Dawgs covered. Now we're figuring out how to surf the Crimson Tide. Actually, I haven't heard too much. Our DT Jerrell Powe might be able to finally be able to play ball this year so that would be a great help on the defensive front. I'm not so high on our linebacking corp. so we need all the help we can get on the line. How's the Tide rolling?

You know you never see a tidal wave until it is upon you. That is the way Alabama is rolling these days silent but violent. I know others here like to poke fun at Alabama fans but they might just be ready to eat a little crow.

Yea, then I'm sure you've heard Ole Tommy Two-face doing the whole seven finger salute. It's all in good fun. I'll be honest I never had anything against Alabama but not a big fan of Saban, although he did leave LSU which was great until he landed right back in the SEC.

Saban is back and ready to prove he is the best coach in the SEC West.

Re: New Coach same Old Miss?

Speaking as a Razorback fan who had followed Coach Nutt since His arrival at Arkansas, I don't think Ole Miss is able to go to the top level in college football under Coach Nutt. Nutt is a pretty good coach. He does pretty good at building a program from terrible, to respectable.

But I think it will take someone else to take Ole Miss to the top. Arkansas had actually went through what your program is going through now. We had our great years, back during the 60's, 70's and 80's. Then we joined the SEC, fell on hard times, and our facilities were terrible. Nutt came in and did make a positive difference. We rose to instead of being a terrible to not so terrible program to an average to little bit above average program.

Now our facilities are among the best, and we have a Coaching staff capable of taking us to the top tier of College Football. Nutt seems to me to be the Coach to take your program up a level, until someone like a Bobby Petrino type comes in and can take it the rest of the way.

Arkansas is on it's way to the top now, only going to get better. Ole Miss may get there someday, but sorry, Nutt won't take you as far as you want to go. Your program will be a whole lot better than it was under Orgeron, and you may even compete for some divisional crowns, and get a Cotton Bowl or two. And that is something to look forward to. So Ole Miss fans do have a reason to be positive, as long as you don't get your hopes up too high. But if you are expecting Nutt to have your program winning conference titles and NC's, you might as well give that up. Not gonna happen under this coaching staff. Sorry.

Houston Nutt is a good coach who sort of reminds me a little of Bobby Bowden. I think he will do Mississippi a good job and your team will be unpredictible.

Re: New Coach same Old Miss?

Every new coach Ole Miss gets is taking them to the NC. I've heard it over and over and they still end up in the cellar. I don't think Nutt will be any different.
