OXFORD - For many people January means it’s time to pay for Christmas.

While it may seem like Christmas for Ole Miss basketball fans, with the Rebels off to a 13-0 start and ranked No. 18, their bill is due in late March or April.

That’s when Andy Kennedy’s name will be connected with the head coach opening at (insert any given school).

Fortunately for Ole Miss, fans the administration started paying that bill in November when Kennedy signed a contract extension through 2011, and his salary was upped to $800,000.

Even with the contract extension, the Kennedy watch is just something that will happen at the end of each season.

For some young head coaches the next big job will only come after reaching the NCAA tournament at least once, something Kennedy has yet to accomplish.
It won’t be necessary for him to lead the Rebels to
the dance once, twice or three times.
