| Tone down the promises We begin today with a reality check: John Howard Vaught, who coached the Ole Miss Rebels to six Southeastern Conference championships and shares of at least three mythical national titles, never made more than $28,500 a year. Today, in Oxford, Ole Miss will introduce its new football coach, Houston Dale Nutt, who will be paid at least $7.4 million over the next four seasons.
