| Schaeffer saga adds another chapter OXFORD — Whether coach Ed Orgeron will get the Ole Miss football program turned around remains to be seen, but this much is certain: Orgeron and Brent Schaeffer will be linked in Rebels history when it comes to defining the struggles of these last two seasons. Orgeron said he made a mistake when he named Schaeffer the starting quarterback before the junior college transfer was even eligible, a decision that's haunted him for two years, as Schaeffer has never performed as expected. But Saturday, in Ole Miss' 41-24 loss to top-ranked LSU, Schaeffer relieved starter Seth Adams and played very well - until Orgeron made one of the more inexplicable coaching decisions of the year. With a combination of passing and scrambling, Schaeffer had led Ole Miss from its 20 to first-and-goal at the LSU 8. Ole Miss trailed 14-7 and time was running out in the half, but the Rebels crowd, so dull the last two home games, was roaring and the nation's No. 1-ranked team looked very beatable. Full Story
