OXFORD — Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy hasn't been shy in touting sophomore David Huertas as the Rebels most important newcomer this season.
Huertas, who transferred from Florida and sat out last season, is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who can score in bunches from 3-point range.
Kennedy said one of his goals is for Huertas to lead the SEC in shot attempts. He did his job in Friday's 110-65 exhibition victory over Delta State. His 12 shot attempts led the team and so did his 18 points.
Huertas smiled when told of Kennedy's desire, but said that kind of confidence also meant plenty of responsibility. "If he wants me to lead the SEC in shooting, I better make them," Huertas said. "But it's a great feeling that everyday my coach says 'David, I'm going to let you shoot it.'"
