Rebels' Hardy brings mega-talent to football field

OXFORD — The first time defensive coordinator John Thompson saw Greg Hardy, it was on the Ole Miss basketball court - not the football field.
What he saw was a wide-bodied 6-foot-5 freshman who looked awfully athletic to double as a defensive end.
"My first (basketball game) here I remember we played Arkansas," Thompson said with a laugh. "And I remember looking out there and saying, 'That's a nice looking guy' running around and jumping."
And now as a sophomore, Hardy put those considerable athletic talents to use in a dominating performance during Saturday's 27-24 loss to Alabama, with 13 tackles, including 4 1/2 for a loss and three sacks.
