OXFORD — Ole Miss quarterback Seth Adams' right shoulder is sore, but the senior can't imagine a scenario that would keep him sidelined Saturday.
It's Florida week. It's his big chance to help the Rebels bounce back from a frustrating loss by squaring off with the defending national champions. So as far as Adams is concerned, the sprained shoulder he sustained at Vanderbilt is little more than a minor nuisance this week.
"I feel like I'm going to play," Adams said. "Obviously, it's up to the trainers and the coach's decision. That's out of my control. I'm not the boss. In my mind, I feel like I'll be ready to play."
But, for now, the status of Ole Miss' starting quarterback is uncertain after Adams was injured in the fourth quarter of the 31-17 loss at Vanderbilt. Coach Ed Orgeron deemed Adams' status as a "game time" decision during his weekly press conference, meaning last season's starter - Brent Schaeffer - is the likely choice to lead the Rebels if Adams can't play.
Schaeffer got the call for the first time this season after Adams was sacked and landed on his throwing shoulder in the fourth quarter. It aggravated an injury that occurred earlier in the game when Adams was flushed out of the pocket and scrambled.
