OXFORD — Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron said the race for the starting quarterback job has been plagued by inconsistency this month.

It didn't change during the annual "Meet the Rebels Day" scrimmage on Saturday.

Quarterbacks Seth Adams, Michael Herrick and Brent Schaeffer turned in up-and-down performances during the two-hour scrimmage. Adams worked with the first-team offense throughout the day, while Herrick and Schaeffer split the second-team work.

"I just didn't think the quarterback play was very good at all," Orgeron said. "Seth did some good things in the second half (of the scrimmage). Other than that, I didn't see anything that looked like the quarterback we should have back there."
