| Re: Cowboy golfers entering U.S. Open Not one, but two Oklahoma State Cowboys will be entering the U.S. Open this year -- junior Ryan Posey and freshman Jonathan Moore. Here are the scouting reports on these guys from CSTV.com.
First, Jonathan Moore. Quote:
Jonathan Moore, Freshman, Oklahoma State
After capturing top individual honors at the 2006 NCAA Championship and helping Oklahoma State garner the team title, Cowboys freshman Jonathan Moore defeated teammate Pablo Martin on the first playoff hole at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, Ore., to secure the site's lone qualifying spot.
Moore and Martin carded matching rounds -- 70 and 67 -- before the redshirt frosh birdied the extra hole to punch his ticket to the U.S. Open at Winged Foot.
The victory continued an incredible three-tournament winning streak for the Vancouver, Wash., native, who was named the Southern Golf Association's National Amateur of the Month for May. Moore collected his first-ever collegiate individual title at The Maxwell in mid-May before winning the NCAA Central Regional and the NCAA Championship to close out the season.
Moore recorded a Maxwell tournament-record 14-under-par 196 at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla., to start his remarkable run. The frosh was also named to the Ping All-Region squad as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America
| Next, Ryan Posey. Quote:
Ryan Posey, Junior, Oklahoma State
Fresh off of helping Oklahoma State to the 2006 NCAA Championship, OSU junior Ryan Posey posted rounds of 65 and 71 in the Houston sectional at Lakeside Country Club -- matching Ryan Baca's two-round score of 136 to claim one of the two qualifying spots for the U.S. Open.
As a sophomore, the Dallas native tied for fourth place at the Waikoloa Intercollegiate after posting rounds of 65, 66 and 68 for a 17-under total of 199. Posey also finished under par at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate where he netted a 3-under total of 210.
Posey came out of nowhere to qualify for the Open, as the junior was not among the six Cowboys that were named to the Ping All-Region squad as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
