STILLWATER, Okla. – Regents for Oklahoma State University cleared the way for work to begin on an indoor practice facility for the Cowboys football team by officially accepting gifts to fund the construction.

"Facilities are critical not only in performance, but in recruiting coaches and talented individuals all around," said Burns Hargis, who will take over as the university president on Monday.

Hargis said Oklahoma State is "absolutely committed to becoming competitive" in football, but pointed out that the other teams will also use the Sherman Smith Indoor Training Facility, named after its primary benefactor.

The baseball, softball and track teams are also expected to use the facility, which will be built north of Boone Pickens Stadium.
