Post OSU NCAA Baseball Tournament

Creighton coach Ed Servais regards the Oklahoma State team as more wounded bear than dead duck.

Oklahoma State's Corey Brown, who homered last Friday against Oklahoma in the Big 12 tournament, leads the Cowboys with 19 homers. The Cowboys, Creighton's first opponent at the NCAA tournament, stumble into the Fayetteville, Ark., regional having lost their last six games. After getting swept by Missouri in the last regular-season series in Big 12 play, Oklahoma State lost to Baylor, Oklahoma and Missouri in pool play at the conference tournament.

"We know they've lost six in a row, but we also know that they are still a very strong offensive club," Servais said. "We don't do well in high-scoring affairs, so one of our challenges on Friday is trying to keep the ball in the ballpark.

"I hope the wind is blowing in on Friday in Arkansas."

Oklahoma State will bring a 38-19 record and a gob of gaudy offensive numbers into the 2:30 p.m. meeting Friday at Baum Stadium. The Cowboys led the Big 12 in hitting (.327 batting average), slugging percentage (.556), runs (452), hits (664), doubles (135) and home runs (76). The club ranks eighth nationally in hitting, ninth in scoring (7.9 runs per game), seventh in home runs and 10th in doubles.

Oklahoma State had at least 10 hits 36 times this season, with a season-high 25 against Arkansas State on April 11. The Cowboys bettered the 10-hit mark three times in the six-game skid, including bashing Oklahoma for 15 in a 9-8 loss that saw them blow an 8-4 lead in the ninth inning.
