| Initially I was leaning toward letting Sutton try to dry himself out. But it's not his first stint in rehab, and he should have known better than to drink and drive. For goodness' sake, that shows such a severe lack of judgment that they execute you for it in some countries! It's true that there were mitigating circumstances, and I'm sympathetic because I know the lengths that that kind of pain can drive you to. But come on -- everyone knows you don't take painkillers AND drink. And would we be having this conversation if he'd killed someone? I think not. Nor does his employer have to put up with this kind of behavior if they don't want to. If he won't do the honorable thing and retire (and I hope he will), then he should be canned. On the other hand, there's always the good ol' double standard to consider. Take the recent case of another prominent person who was taking painkillers, drank a beer or two, and went out hunting with a buddy. He actually ended up hurting someone pretty badly: in fact, he shot his friend in the face, which put said friend in the hospital and indirectly triggered a heart attack. But I digress. |

| You're absolutely right, Pundit -- two wrongs never make a right unless you're rich and powerful. Just pointing out one of the many double standards Americans have to deal with. I wouldn't call Teddy one of the most revered figures in the party, though; some of us Democratic types don't care much for him at all. But I digress -- this is supposed to be about sports. Say, how 'bout those (OSU) Cowboys! |
