| Adrian Peterson's Heisman chances Oddsmakers seem pretty high on Oklahoma Sooners running back Adrian Peterson, making him one of the early favorites to be in the running for the Heisman Trophy in 2006. Peterson did run for 1,104 yards on 221 carries last season (good for a 5.0 per carry clip) and 14 touchdowns. But on the other hand, he and the Sooners will now be without QB Rhett Bomar. Can Peterson still be a legitimate threat to win the Heisman this season?

Re: Adrian Peterson's Heisman chances Welcome to GoTeamsGo, nebfanof91, and thanks for joining us! Excellent point about the offensive line. How is it? Well, to quote Street & Smith, "finding new musclemen up front is the biggest challenge for Oklahoma this season. Tackle Chris Messner is the lone returning starter... the center is expected to be Chad Roark, who enrolled from high school in January. That's how inexperienced the line is." Looks like Mr. Peterson may have an uphill battle ahead of him, doesn't it?

Re: Adrian Peterson's Heisman chances He has a very good chance to win. He is a man among boys when he is healthy. If they have any o-line at all and he stays healthy, he should have at least 1500 yrds.

Re: Adrian Peterson's Heisman chances Peterson all but carried Oklahoma to their opening game win over UAB, gaining 208 yards from scrimmage and scoring two touchdowns in the Sooners 24-17 victory over the Blazers. Definitely, unless he can perform this well every week, this will be a long, bleak season for the Sooners.

Re: Adrian Peterson's Heisman chances Too early to tell right now. I don't think you can win it in week one, but you can definitely lose it. He did not hurt his chances. I do feel that he, and everyone else that is not wearing a gold helmet is handicapped though. The voters will do anything they can to give it to Quinn just because he plays for Notre Dame. Damn Irish!

Re: Adrian Peterson's Heisman chances Gotta give Peterson all the credit in the world - he ran 34 times for 213 yards and a touchdown today, but it was in a losing effort. Still, the kid accounted for roughly 58% of his team's total offensive output. Despite the loss, I still believe Peterson is a Heisman candidate. Not all of the preseason favorites can say that this evening.

Re: Adrian Peterson's Heisman chances Peterson's stats on the year thus far: 117 carries, 643 yards, 160.8 yards per game, 5.5 avg., 7 TDs; 4 receptions, 72 yards and 1 TD. I'm sure he's on atop of lot of peoples list right now, the way he's carried Oklahoma.

Re: Adrian Peterson's Heisman chances Peterson is looking very good so far in the 1st half of the Texas game. Man is he a load to bring down. I don't know that I have seen a college back run as hard as he does in a long time.
