Are the Oklahoma Sooners BCS Bowl contenders this year?

ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach seems to think so: "The Sooners are capable of winning it all in 2008 -- if they can win a bowl game. Quarterback Sam Bradford returns as a Heisman Trophy contender, and OU's offensive and defensive lines are as good as any units in the country." Do you agree?

I can tell you that everybody around here is pumped about this season. The word is this recruiting class is probably the best they've seen in years. Not just the top kids they went after and got, but all the others you don't hear to much about in the press. They've returned most of their offensive line. The only downside is they lost 5 of their defensive starters. But I'm hearing the depth is remarkable, so nobody's really worried about it. I guess that remains to be seen.

One of my sources is Jimbo Elrod who shares a 3 hour radio show here with James Hale. He's saying these guys are fired up more than any team he's seen in some time. There's something positively different about this team, again, something he hasn't seen before. To put it in his words..."These studs have a pep in their step like I haven't seen in a long time."

So I'd have to say, it's looking good for the Sooners, if they can get their defense in line.

I am a huge Bob Stoops fan and think this year's version of the Sooners is maybe one of his better teams. Unfortunately, the Sooners are going to have a tougher road in the Big 12 this year. I think the Big 12 overall will be the best it has been in years. Should be exciting to watch and yes, I think the Sooners have a shot!
