Stoops loses esteem

The crying by Bob Stoops has greatly diminished his reputation as a class act. You got robbed on the onsides kick, no doubt. We have all been robbed at one point or another (e.g. push off by OU receiver to score touchdown, and delay of game not called, which ended in touchdown drive). But the sooners lost because:

The Ducks hung 501 yards of offense on you...

You settled for field goals instead of being able to punch it in...

You couldn't stop the Ducks from scoring twice in 1:12...

And you got your game winning kick blocked.

Like every class coach, Stoops should have said that the call hurt us, but we didn't loose the game on that one play.

Sooner Fan, wake up.... You're not that good! Your Defense is weak, you have nothing outside of Adrian Peterson (Top 3 back in the country). You had no shot at the national championship anyway, like the Ducks, but can still get in a BCS by winning your conference. The bellyaching is laughable and for your school president to suggest that the game be thrown out is pathetic.

Remember, the Ducks got screwed when Nebraska got to play in the Championship game even though both polls had Oregon #2 behind Miami. Belotti said he was mad, but you didn't hear him crying all over ESPN.

Better move on or you've got more "L's" coming your way.

Re: Stoops loses esteem

Hi flyduckfly, welcome to GoTeamsGo

yeah, the request to throw out the game was never gonna go anywhere. After the game's over, we know that they're not gonna change the outcome of a game.

But I'd really be surprised if any top tier coaches would have just let slide such a huge call in such a close game.

Look forward to chatting more with you. Head over to our Oregon Ducks forum sometime.

What's the name of the Oregon coach? I cannot seem to remember because your team is so insignificant. It's a team that went 10-1 last season, whined about having to play in a non-BCS bowl, and then got iced by a rather average OU team. Could you imagine what would have happened if you had to play against a real team like Tech?

Stoops is a class act, that's why everyone knows his name. That, plus the fact his team averages more than 1-2 winning seasons an era, unlike the Ducks. I defend Stoops because he reminds me of Beamer. There's few nicer, smarter and well spoken coaches out there.

Be proud of your win, if you want, but don't go bashing Stoops.

Here's some sobering stats for you: The qb who threw for over 170 yards with a td and no int, he was a receiver last season. Go figure.

Welcome FlyD...

Hey...all is fair in love and football...why not ask for the game to be thrown out?...If you can bend someone's ear and get it done, more power to them...

So your really think the Ducks have a shot?...Give me your top three reasons they can take the whole ball of wax.

Hi!

All is fair? Then why all the complaining about the blown call? The cardinal rule of sports is scoreboard. You can't toss out the results because you lost. Oklahoma (as does any east coast team) acts as though they have the right to prevail over the pac-10. Look only at the pitiful lobbying and collusion among Big -12 teams that kept Cal out of the BCS and put Texas in. It was so bad that now they have to divulge the final vote of the season.

Like I said, the Ducks can't win it all. Though prolific on offense their corners are young and inexperienced. Besides, as we've seen in the past, even when the Ducks, or other Pac 10 teams qualify for the championship game, they get passed over for some school with more "tradition".

I'd like to see more big name schools make the trip out here and play in our houses....instead, they even break their contracts with Fresno State for fear of losing to an "inferior" conference.

His name is Mike Bellotti. He is the longest tenured coach in the Pac-10. If not for a bad season two years ago, he is the coach with the most consecutive winning seasons in the Pac-10 (13?). The fact you know nothing about him is only because your school never bothers to play anyone west of the Mississippi and ya'all are in bed when the other half of the country is playing.

Stoops is bashing himself. He needs to take responsibility for his own team's failures, which is the real reason they lost, instead of complaining about a single call. Remember, two blown calls resulted in two Sooner TD's. No complaint from him though.

Wasn't that the same season the Texas won their bowl game (one of the most exciting Rose Bowls in recent years before this past one) and Cal, who claimed to have been slighted, got romped by the 4th place team from the Big 12? You might want to point your arguments in directions that prove your point, as opposed to pointing them in the direction of showing just how smart the NCAA was for picking Texas over Cal.

Cal choked, no doubt about it, which only proves my other point. They got so wrapped up in being screwed that they overlooked their opponent and blew it. Oklahoma risks the same if they just don't accept that they lost. If their president keeps making a big deal out of it, it will be an ongoing distraction.

Maybe I'm wrong, but don't the BCS bowls invite teams based on their computer rankings, coaches polls, and media polls? (The NCAA doesn't pick anyone). If Big 12 coaches didn't vote Cal way down in the top 25 (knowing that they were a top 5 team) in order to put Texas ahead in the computer rankings, Texas doesn't get in. All I'm saying is don't complain when things don't go your way when your conference does anything it can to get over on others.

Re: Stoops loses esteem

To be totally honest here, Cal didn't deserve to be in the BCS bowl game. It's no secret to true college football fans around the country that the Pac 10 has 1 great team, 6 average teams and 3 complete jokes. Outside of USC, name any Pac-10 team that has beaten a ranked team outside their conference in the past 2-3 years. Other than the loss to USC in the championship game in 2004 and Nebraska's loss to USC this weekend, the Big 12 has dominated the Pac-10. If you want to mention it, if not for a bad call by the ref 2 years ago on a phantom pass interference call when my favorite team was owning USC in the season opener, USC would have been down 1 less championship (Aren't they about to have to forfeit that now that the Bush Allegations are proving true?).

Come to Blacksburg, we'll show you a thing or two about football.

Problem is, the Big 12 doesn't have too many ranked teams to beat. They all lost their non-conference games last weekend.

Isn't Colorado a big 12 school? Didn't Oregon school them 38-16 in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl? Big 12 has 1 good team, texas, one descent team, oklahoma, one mediocre team, nebraska and the rest?

Would love to come to blacksburg, if only we could get an east coast team to sign a deal.....they all refuse the home and home, or back out at the last minute. props to michigan (loss), oklahoma (loss), and georgia (future loss) for making and keeping their promises.

Re: Stoops loses esteem

No one wants Oregon to come play them because they would, in all likelihood, have to wear those hideious, ridiculious yellow jerseys.

Ahhh, but which of the 68 possible combinations? Got to get noticed somehow out here in the hinterlands of the Pacific Northwest!
