Bob Stoops reaction to replay calls

On Sunday, Sooners coach Bob Stoops addressed the conversial calls that many say cost his team a win over Oregon.

Stoops `incredibly disappointed' but still supports instant replay - NCAAF - Yahoo! Sports

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Sunday he was "incredibly disappointed" after reviewing videotapes of a disputed onside kick and pass- interference penalty from the Sooners' last-minute loss to Oregon.

Stoops said he believes an Oregon player interfered with Oklahoma's chance to recover an onside kick by touching the ball before it traveled 10 yards. The play gave Oregon possession and set up the Ducks' winning drive.

He also said an Oklahoma defender tipped a pass by Oregon's Dennis Dixon, and Sooners safety Darien Williams should not have been flagged for pass interference on a play that set up the Ducks' winning score.

"The instant replay was brought up to eliminate issues like this. And here, there are a number of issues that are clearly -- looking at video -- wrong," Stoops said Sunday.
Stoops also went on to say that he hoped the incidents would not lead the NCAA to scrap the instant replay system, and Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione added that while the team had requested a review of the officiating crew and the events that took play, that the game's outcome could not be reversed and that the team was now turning their focus to this weekend's game with Middle Tennessee State.

It isn't going to do him any good to dwell on the loss. He has to move on and let the administration handle the problem from here on out. No matter what, it will still be a loss for OU. However, that being said, the NCAA needs to make sure a PAC10 crew is not calling a non-conference PAC10 home again. That was the most blatant case of home cooking I have ever seen. I made that whole game a joke.

instant replay
ou -uo game referees
ou had opportunity to win in spite of refs and didn't stop oregon in last min and half, also allowed a kick to be blocked.
remember there were some calls before the last 3 minutes that also could have made a diff.

Re: Bob Stoops reaction to replay calls

Welcome to GoTeamsGo, ncoviva. I think you summed up most people's reaction to the events that took place beautifully. The refs were terrible and should be sanctioned, and OU still had chances to overcome but didn't. It's over, time to move on to the next opponent.

Still, I do wonder what's going to happen to those refs. We're supposed to find out today.
