Ted Ginn Heisman Chances

Ohio State's stud receiver, Ted Ginn is among the hopefuls in the nation in 2006 to contend for the vaunted Heisman Trophy. He's probably the most talked about receiver in the nation and should see his fare share of chances to create havoc on the field. Most people believe he's the fastest football player, in college and the pro's. Wow.

The thing that I think will turn to hurt Ginn's chances will be the fact that he has a pretty good QB in Troy Smith. Smith should be a candidate as well and splitting the votes is possible.

Ah, yes, the great enigma that is Teddy Ginn. Street & Smith is pretty high on him after his 51 catch, 803 yard season last year -- the magazine even predicts that he might break David Boston's Buckeye record with 85 catches. Without Santonio Holmes, though, I don't see it. Ginn will be double covered on every play and opponents will force Anthony Gonzalez to beat them in the receiving game.

This guy is getting a lot of press...and stands at 15:1 odds...not bad odds for a reciever...I think the fact that he is a Buckeye gets him that high on the list. If he palyed somewhere else, I am not sure he would have much of a campaign for the award.

Well he is on the #1 ranked team going into the season so you can expect him and Troy Smith to get tons of PR in the coming weeks and months. Deserving or not, they'll get a ton of pub.

See, that's the problem with the Award...its like the Oscars or the Golden Globe...its all how well you are marketed (along with on the field stats)...

Yes, its largely on how a player is marketed, which causes a real dilemma for the Buckeyes. Do you promote Smith or Ginn? Which of these offensive stars will benefit from the university sponsored publicity campaigns, and will they wind up stealing votes from each other?

Ginn is one of those guys whose talents can become a PR monster by itself. He's received that much hype over the past couple of years. I don't think he'd have a problem but Troy Smith would.

It would be fun to look at some as the Ohio State Booster Blogs and see who they are campaigning for.

I don't think he has a great shot. If a Buckeye wins, it would likely be Troy Smith i believe. Hopefully Quinn wil get it though.
