During the Kent State-Ohio State game Saturday, one coach plans to empty his bench to keep his players fresh and healthy for the second half of the conference race.


The other coach has no plans to rest anyone, including the starting tailback who keeps limping off the field with a bad ankle.

As strange as it might sound, it was Doug Martin, coach of 30-point underdog Kent State, who was vowing to play everyone who makes the trip to Ohio Stadium for a midseason nonconference game.
The Golden Flashes (3-3) are focused more on the Mid-American Conference race than on trying to pull a huge upset of No. 3 Ohio State (6-0).

"We've got to come out of this game healthy so we can finish our conference schedule effectively," Martin said. "Playing everybody is a must for us on both sides of the ball.

"We'll play (backup quarterback Anthony) Magazu in this game for sure. … (Starting quarterback Julian) Edelman has taken some shots the last couple of weeks, and we need to freshen him up for this upcoming stretch. So when we go with the second group, that entire second group is going in.
