COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two Ohio State male athletes have been nominated for a 2007 ESPY Award as the Best Male College Athlete.
Troy Smith, who completed his career as the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, led the Buckeyes to the BCS national championship game in football as the starting quarterback. He threw for more that 2,500 yards and connected on 30 passes for touchdowns as a senior. Smith, a Cleveland, Ohio, native, was Ohio State's 2007 Male Athlete of the Year.
Greg Oden, a freshman center for the Buckeye men's basketball team, led Ohio State to the NCAA national championship game in April. Oden, a 7-footer from Indianapolis, led Ohio State in scoring (15.7 ppg.), rebounding (9.6 rpg.) and blocked shots (105). He was named a first team All-American by the Associated Press to become the first Ohio State freshman to be so honored.
