| Re: 2007 Football predictions? I'm not sure, but this article says 3 players are battling for the spot: Quote: CANTON - Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel is bracing himself for the question that will come up every day until the Sept. 1 season opener.
He already seems to be agonizing about the time he might need to answer, ``Who's the quarterback?''
With Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith taking his 25-3 record as a starter to the NFL, the Buckeyes will let three candidates battle in spring ball and fall camp before OSU hits the field against Youngstown State.
Junior-to-be Todd Boeckman (a 6-foot-5, 235-pound product of St. Henry), sophomore Rob Schoenhoft (6-6, 240 from Cincinnati St. Xavier) and redshirt freshman Antonio Henton (6-2, 210 from Fort Valley, Ga.) will get their chances.
Monday in his annual appearance at the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club at the Four Winds restaurant, Tressel gave no hint as to who might have the upper hand.
``We've got three guys who I think are excited,'' Tressel said. ``The thing you try to talk to them about, it isn't important who's the quarterback. What's important is when are we going to have a quarterback or two or whatever who's capable of doing what we need done?
``They need to focus in on becoming a good quarterback. Whether or not they become the quarterback, we'll see.''
