OSU's Mike Conley

Mike Conley Jr., the Big Ten's leader in assists, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio, earned co-Big Ten player of the week honors after he led Ohio State to a pair of home wins last week to remain unbeaten at home (16-0) and tied for the top spot in Big Ten Conference play with a 10-1 record. Conley, a freshman point guard from Indianapolis, averaged 18.5 points and five assists while connecting on 61 percent of his shots from the field, 75 percent of his 3-point attempts and 86 percent of his foul shots.

The Big Ten's leader in assists, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio? So why isn't this guy getting the kind of press Oden is? Seems to me like he's quietly becoming the best player on this Buckeyes basketball team.

Re: OSU's Mike Conley

While Oden brings tremendous talent and potential to the table, Conley has quietly infused this team with a newfound confidence. In fact, I believe Matta called him the best point guard in the nation already. Needless to say, I think that is an exaggeration, but he isn't too far behind. When he arrived on campus in Columbus, he seemed tentative to shoot too much. As his grasp continues to strengthen over the offense, he has shown increased willingness to score. He is relentless attacking the basket, possesses a solid mid-range game, and can stroke it from downtown too. He seems to be a student of the game and his unshakeable poise is the aspect that impresses me the most about him.

Even if Oden leaves after this season, I am excited about having Conley.
