Ohio State Football Recruiting

USA Today has the 2006 Ohio State football recruiting class ranked #4 in the nation.

Chris Wells sounds like he's the real deal. Top running back in the nation and one of the elite prospects on anybody's recruiting list. Bunch of guys from OH but a good smattering from everywhere else, FL, PA, Mi, California, even Georgia.

So what's this gonna do for Coach Tressel? Is this enough to get the Buckeyes back to the BCS Championship game?

Will be interesting

The Buckeyes got some good recurits and they have a very favorable schedule with the only real hard game away from home is Texas. Could run the table if they beat Texas at Austin.

Playing in the Big Ten makes it nearly impossible to run the table. I get a chuckle when people call a Big Ten schedule favorable. No doubt Ohio State will be strong. But, like usual, it will probably come down to the final week of the season against Michigan, after both teams have suffered a loss or two.

Ohio States recuriting this year can sustain the multitude of defense voids to fill for the 2006 season. They have limited production returning in the secondary (recruited well for this), none in the linebacking core (OSU always has great linebakcers) and two D-lineman returning (Kind of overrated last year). However, while the defense will be considerably worse, the offense will be much more consistent and won't get off to the slow start they had last year. I still claim that if Troy Smith had started week one against Miami, then they would have nudged out a victory against Texas in week two. The ultimate folly for Tressel as a head coach is his indecisiveness (as illustrated with the Zwick-Smith debacle) and his conservatism (As illustrated in the Penn St. game). But conservative play calling wins you many more games than it costs you. And when he actually brings himself to open up the playbook, the offense looks affective.
But Ken77 is right, Ohio State definitely has the chops to make it to the fiesta. The culmination of Michigan at home, Penn State losing practically their entire defense and Vince Young leaving early, I don't see OSU being a dog in any game on the 2006 schedule. Barring any night game road loss the week after the bye, I could efinitely see OSU running the table.

Re: Ohio State Football Recruiting

OSU should get some great guys and make their football team even better this year. We lost a lot of defense this year but we will rebound.

Re: Ohio State Football Recruiting

Hi, and welcome to the GoTeamsGo boards. Which freshmen do you think might have a chance of contributing immediately to the Buckeyes?

Thumbs up Re: Ohio State Football Recruiting

The bucks are always a good team. This could be another run at the title if they get themselves together. There defense won't be as good, but if you can score lots of points who knows. Can't wait for the Michingan game. GO BUCKS!!!!!
