Don't be surprised if Jeff George is cut in the next 24 hours, but don't read much into it. The Raiders signed George with the idea of getting a look to see if he can still throw and be a candidate for a backup job. They were worried that Andrew Walter's right shoulder was bad and if that was the case, they were going to need a veteran arm. They didn't plan to play George against Seattle Thursday not because they didn't want to get him hurt. Having George on the roster by the opening day would have guaranteed his $810,000 salary and the Raiders weren't ready to do that. It's possible they could cut him and re-sign him after the first week so they don't have to guarantee his contract.
