ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders signed Jeff George to a contract Monday, bringing back a player who hasn't thrown an NFL pass in five seasons

George, the No. 1 overall pick by Indianapolis in 1990, joined the team in time for Monday's afternoon practice. He previously played for the Raiders in 1997-98, starting 23 games and throwing 33 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

It is not immediately clear what his role will be on the Raiders, who already have Aaron Brooks, Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo on the roster.

Well, congratulations to the Raiders. They brought in a quarterback that makes the Aaron Brooks signing look downright brilliant. Jeff George? Why in the world would they want Jeff George? Maybe next they can go bring back Todd Marinovich or Dan McGuire!

Took the words right out of my mouth. This signing is one that only one NFL franchise would do...the Oakland Raiders. No other team would even consider pulling George off the couch. Man the Raider QB situation must be horrendous!

Although the signing has raised my eyebrows on a few occasions AND had me chuckling on others, the bottom line is that I am baffled by the signing.

However, I do not believe Brooks starting position is in jepordy as result.

It only reminds me to not try and get into the mind of Al Davis.

i fell out of my seat laughing when i heard this, all i could think about was that they got rid of kerry collins so they could get arron brooks and jeff george and i just laughed more. This has to be a kick in the balls for george

Indeed letting Collins go for the pathetic QB choices they now have was stupid beyone belief!
