Aaron Brooks or Andrew Walter?

Who should be the starting QB for the Oakland Raiders in 2006: Aaron Brooks or Andrew Walter? As I've said in the past, I'm not a fan of Brooks and feel he's actually a downgrade from Kerry Collins, so my pick is Walter. Apparently I'm not alone, either. "The Raiders are suffering and their only real hope is that quarterback Andrew Walter develops fast enough that Aaron Brooks doesn't get on the field," writes Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports in his AFC's burning questions - NFL - Yahoo! Sports article. "Either that, or Brooks needs to get the fact that he's wasting his talent with his horrendous decision-making." So which would you start at QB, Brooks or Walter?

Cool Re: Aaron Brooks or Andrew Walter?

Who's Andrew Walter? If the Raiders are trying to win right now, they have to go with Brooks. If they're trying to build something, Andrew Walter -whoever that is - is the man!

Who is Andrew Walters?..He is the man who kept them from getting their hands on Matt Leinhart that's who ....Here is the dope on the former Arizona Stater...

A quarterback with good ball handling skills, has a quick setup in the pocket, has good touch on various passes thrown, good pocket presence

A player that possesses a excellent inner timer for pressure around him, he also leads his receivers well, which leads to more yards after catch, a underrated skill, he tends to avoid the rush well, poised, and seldom panics, inspiring and fiery type of quarterback

A quarterback that has a good balance of short, mid, and deep ball throws, has a lot of confidence and it shows in his play, even when his passes are not completed, many times his balls are catchable, his passes are consistently close to his receivers, has good football smarts

At times he shows too much of his emotions on his sleeve, and needs to keep his composure & poise, I also would like to see better foot placement in the pocket when throwing the ball, at times he throws off his back foot and other notable bad foot work habits, I would like to see him work on his overall fundamentals as a quarterback, needs to refine his game concerning the little things, also likes to force balls which disturbs me when you consider his experience and games played on the collegiate level at quarterback

As for his draft status, I feel due to his inconstancies and also season ending injury near the end of his collegiate career, that drop his draft value, so as a (5th RD) pick I see good value, depending on what team roster he lands on, he could be anywhere from a backup to a future All-Pro quarterback, has the mobility and quick thinking to be an excellent West Coast quarterback

Re: Aaron Brooks or Andrew Walter?

I think that Coach Shell has penciled in Brooks as the starter. However, the starting QB position is up in the air.

Walter is definitely the future of the team for a guy who is only in his 2nd year.

I will just wait and see how camp and the pre-season goes before I state my opinion on the starting QB.

Nuff.

Re: Brooks may back into starting job

According to this story, "few doubt that Brooks will be the starter in Oakland's regular-season opener against the San Diego Chargers on Sept. 11 and for as long as he plays at a competent level... What other option does Shell have? Brooks is the only experienced quarterback he has on his roster, in terms of games played." Of course, this would be despite the fact that Brooks, after too preseason games, is just 2-9 for 28 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT and 1 sack. He's definitely not the long-term answer though, right?

He's been pitiful...but I think he is still close to a top tier QB...and one with the most comeback wins of the active QBs...but hey, they should have taken Leinart over Huff...right?...rgiht?

This obviously came from some pre-draft story. Allow me to let you know whom Andrew Walter really is because he is definitely leagues from being the QB that Bio described. Andrew Walter has a 54.8 passers rating (32nd in the NFL). He has thrown 9 interceptions to his 3 touchdowns this season over a period of 9 games (the averages an interception every game but a touchdown only every 3 games). He has averaged 135.4 passing yards per game (32nd in the NFL). He's been sacked 40 times (no pocket presence). 48.1% completion percentage (not very accurate). He's fumbled 11 times this season recovering only 4(poor ball handling skills). Now that is the real Aaron Walter the 32nd rated quarterback in the NFL.

Re: Aaron Brooks or Andrew Walter?

Welcome aboard, Cowboys Fan, and thanks for joining us here at GoTeamsGo!

As you point out, the Andrew Walter from college and the one playing for the Raiders right now are two vastly different QBs. Granted Oakland's offensive line hasn't been too good for much of the season, but Walters clearly isn't the guy who's going to lead this Oakland offense for the next 10 years. I believe they're going back to Brooks this week, and I wouldn't be surprised if they spend their 1st round pick on a QB next season. What do you think?

Re: Aaron Brooks or Andrew Walter?

Walter just maybe one of those 3-4 year learning curve guys, he deserves to be traded to a better team. I'd like to see them start Tuiasosopo, if for no other reason than to hear the guys in the booth pronouce that one.
