Re: Raiders looking to sign Grady Jackson

Word has it that the Oakland Raiders may be close to signing veteran defensive lineman Grady Jackson, and this author seems to really like the idea: "With a defensive tackle roster deficient of aged reliability, Grady Jackson could quickly become Oakland's best option this offseason. Beyond 33-year-old Warren Sapp sits an array of question mark-linked players... As a veteran of the NFL for a longstanding nine years, Jackson's great mixture of dependability and reliability may find a home down in Oakland's trenches in 2006." Think this would be a good signing for the Raiders?

Well, they keep drafting DB...maybe its high time they try getting a good DT in the 1st round of a draft...

Re: Raiders looking to sign Grady Jackson

Or they could be real mavericks and draft an offensive skill position player. I hear those guys help put points on the board or something. I mean, you have to go back to Rickey Dudley in 1996 to find the last time the Raiders took a skill position guy with in the first round, and I'm not 100% sure that a tight end even qualifies as a "skill position" guy. The year before him was Napoleon Kaufman, RB, Washington. Since then its been a steady stream of offensive linemen, defensive personnell, and one kicker. The last first round QB they took was Todd Marinovich some 15 years ago!

Re: Raiders looking to sign Grady Jackson

The Raiders have had a history of signing FA Defensive Linemen. Dating back from Ben Davidson, John Matuszak, Lyle Alzado, Sam Adams and so on. They've drafted DL as well in Howie Long, Greg Townsend, Anthony Smith, Chester McGlockton and Darrell Russell.

Grady Jackson brings a solid linemen with veteran experience to the defense. Especially since the linebacker corps and secondary are young.

Nuff.
