Re: Are the Raiders for sale?

Al Davis selling the Oakland Raiders? I just can't see it, but apparently there's all kinds of talk about possible buyers. According to this story, Eddie DeBartolo and Carmen Policy, Brent Jones and Steve Young are possible suitors, but one Raider executive is quoted as saying that "total control of the Oakland Raiders will always remain in the Davis family." You think the Davis family would ever sell off this NFL franchise?

nope ...Davis will take the rights to the grave...no way the guy lets go of his baby...I am sure they will bury Davis underneath a goal post some day...Steve Young huh?...This guy got a law degree during his football career...and was toying with becoming a doctor...he also finally got married...now he wants to be an owner too...just relax a bit Steve...

Cool Re: Are the Raiders for sale?

There were the same type of stories when the Yankees partnered with the Nets - that Steinbrenner was selling the Yankees. Two people who will NEVER sell their franchises as long as they're alive: STEINBRENNER AND AL DAVIS.

Yeah, were would Seinfeld be without the whole Steinbrenner deal?...They should have spun off a sequel where George Costonza goes to work for Al Davis...sort of a Seinfeld West...

Re: Raiders Executive Downplays DeBartolo Purchase Plans

More rumblings about a possible Raiders sale to Eddie DeBartolo and Carmen Policy, more denials from Raider team brass. According to the Sports Illustrated article which apparently started this whole thing, DeBartolo and Policy mentioned their desire to buy the franchise from Al Davis and move it back to L.A. Oakland Raiders chief executive Amy Trask's response was to say that the duo has been "enjoying too much wine" and the rumors are essentiall "nothing about nothing." We'll see, I guess.

Maybe what Oakland is really saying is...they are insulting us with the opening bid...

Didn't DeBartolo and Policy get in trouble with NFL?...I tought they had?...Would the NFL accept them as owners?

Yeah. Cap violations with the Niners, I believe, but Policy was actually with the Browns until... what was it, a year / year-and-a-half ago, now? Clashes with Butch Davis drove him out.

Well then...the sort of "clean living souls" that might endear themselves to Al Davis...it may happen yet...

Re: Are the Raiders for sale?

I think Steve Jobs of Apple Computers would be a suitor to buy the Raiders. His pockets are deep enough from all those Ipods Apple has sold. Plus, Steve Jobs can come up with a new Ipod called "The Raider." It would be the leanest, meanest Ipod ever made.
