Raiders contact Dilfer

In need of a veteran back up quarterback, the Raiders have contacted Trent Dilfer.

I am thinking he would be a good guy to have around for that young quarterback and good veteran influence for some of the younger players.

I'm always in favor of bringing in a guy like Dilfer to mentor a young QB. Of course, the last guy he mentored was Alex Smith, so...

There's a lot of places where Dilfer would fit nicely.
Besides Oakland and Miami, how about Green Bay? Of course, they have too many QBs already.

The article made mention of the fact that Dilfer knows he is a back up, unlike others who think they can still start, like Culpepper.

Yeah, and you can't underestimate that kind of mentality when it comes to choosing a backup/mentor. You don't want to sign a guy if you think there's a chance he'll tank your young QBs development in order to get himself into the lineup. A guy who knows his place and puts the good of the team first (but is ready to play if necessary), like Dilfer, is a valuable asset.

I like the move. If nothing else Dilfer has a will to win and is tough. I think he would be good backup/mentor to Russell. I say go for it!
