Re: Raiders "Idiots" for Passing on Leinart

How urgently do the Raiders need a QB? According to the author of this story, they needed one bad enough to draft Matt Leinart instead of Michael Huff, who many feel was the top DB in the draft. "If any team was in position to draft a quarterback, it was the Raiders," he writes. "But the Raiders passed on Leinart, who... was probably the SAFEST first round pick of a QB ever, with proven leadership skills and known play-making ability." What do you fine folks at GoTeamsGo have to say about these comments?

You know...I felt that way on draft day...now I see Matt more interested in Paris Hilton than in hitting the play book...and I am starting to think it will be Jay Cutler who would have been dumb to pass up...

Well, the word was that Davis wasn't high on either of them. But can they win with what they now have?

Yeah, I know Davis believes that to win, you shorten the field with a great secondary, but the Raiders without a master QB never get anywhere...Lamonica, Stabler, and even Plunkett were good if not great QBs...even Gannon for a spell ran the West Coast offense well...

Al should catch on.

Re: Raiders "Idiots" for Passing on Leinart

The Raiders do not need another QB. With the signing of Aaron Brooks and two unproven youngsters in Tuiasasopo (only two real starts) and Andrew Walter, it is apparent that the Raiders needed to shore up the defense. Especially with C-Wood leaving. The key that made those Raider QB's great was that the OL (Which was VERY suspect last year). Last year, the OL was undisciplined and looked lost when it came to blocking. Art and his crew will make it very simple for them this year and it will be different for them. You give the QB time and he will produce.

Andrew Walter is the future QB of the Raiders. Tui may end up going elsewhere and Brooks is a better QB than Collins (even though he had a bad year with New Orleans last year). In my opinion, I am happy with the group of QB's that we have. Get the OL blocking like they are supposed to be and our QB will be fine.

Nuff.

Interesting. Walter, I agree, should be the heir apparent and the long term solution. But Brooks better than Collins? I'm afraid I just don't see it. With all due respect, I'd MUCH rather have Kerry Collins running my team than Aaron Brooks. But who knows? Maybe the career underachiever will finally put it all together in Oakland. Stranger things have happened.

spoken like a guy with some ties to the Penn State area...I would take Brooks over Collins in a heart beat...the Saints kept Brooks down...don't you remember the thread where Brooks is among the top comeback quarterbacks in the league?...and they shouldn't have passed on a 1st rounder with ties to California

Well, let's compare their QB ratings and team win-loss marks at the end of the year and see.

That is, if Collins ever friggin' signs anywhere.

Re: Raiders "Idiots" for Passing on Leinart

Ryan Leaf was drafted number 1 or 2 in the first round. I always get it confused between him and Peyton Manning. Manning was 1, Leaf was 2 or the other way around.

Nuff.

So was Manning...and Vick, Eli Manning, etc...what is the point?...Anyone really think Lienart is more Leaf than he is Manning? Come on now...He was worth the pick...what did they get?...another safety?...Michael Huff...is that what they really needed?...please....
