| Warren Sapp Tells Teammates He's Retiring ![]() Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp told his teammates at a team meeting on Friday that he plans to retire. That represents the end of the career for a player who was once among the league's elite defensive players. Sapp was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' first-round draft pick in 1995, after an All-American career at the University of Miami. He was a big part of the Buccaneers' defensive revitalization under head coach Tony Dungy, whose style of defense was perfect for the speedy Sapp. Sapp was named defensive player of the year in 1999, and at his best he was the best pass-rushing defensive tackle in the NFL. However, he was less effective in his last few years in Tampa Bay and has been mediocre at best in his four years in Oakland. Sapp finishes his career with 96.5 sacks and seven Pro Bowls. He was the dominate player at his position in his era...I would vote yes on it...I mean how many Defensive Tackles have that kind of impact on the game for as long as he did?...On the other hand, he is no Bob Lilly...

| Re: Warren Sapp Tells Teammates He's Retiring If he can get in from having a big mouth than I say yes. As a player I voted No. I don't think Sapp brought it every game. To me it was his mouth that got him all his attention, not his play. Besides that, he's an ass, and has always been known for being one. I guess my vote should'nt count. |

| Re: Warren Sapp Tells Teammates He's Retiring I voted no as well. I didn't even know he was playing this year. Since going to Oakland, he has been a joke. He started off with a HOF career, but could not sustain it. Now, I think all HOFs should have a wing for the characters of the game. He would definitely get in there. He made some seasons memorable.

Next thing you will be telling me is that New England Tight Ends are as good as Jason Witten... |

| Re: Warren Sapp Tells Teammates He's Retiring I voted yes. I'm willing to bet there are players in there with less than 90 sacks and 7 pro bowls. He wasn't always a fave of mine, but he did have a pretty good career. I think that the fact that Oakland hasn't been good for a few years hurt his numbers a bit. |

| Re: Warren Sapp Tells Teammates He's Retiring That might have been am even better choice. One problem with the Halls these days is that there are some very good players that get in. The problem is that very good isn't supposed to be good enough for the Hall. I voted yes, but I certainly could be swayed to no. Bottom line, I really don't have that much emotion in it one way or another! Maybe that is really telling me that he doesn't belong! |
